Installation Instructions

1. ChooseDefogger Location

Mark the location of the mirror on the wall using a pencil. Next, mark the desired location for the defogger. This area is usually over the sink with the top edge 6 feet (184cm) above the floor. (It allows a person up to 6 feet 2 inches to see the top of their head and entire upper torso. Deviations from this standard may be made to accomodate your height.) To help get accurate positioning, draw a topline and side edges. To cover the junction box, the defogger must be 2 1/2 inches below the top of the mirror.

2. Place Remodel Box

Mark on the wall the position for the remodel box. The box should be centered behind the defogger. The top of the box should be placed 1 1/2 inches above the top of the defogger. The allows the defogger's electrical connection to fall with the box so the mirror may be flush to the wall.

Turn power off. Ensure breaker is in "OFF" position. Use your sheetrock (keyhole) saw and cut out the shetrock for the remodel box. Metal boxes must be grounded.

Run the Romex cable from the mst accessible connection box to the cut out area. Connect the remodel box to the Romex cable and install the box in the ut out hole. Connect the defogger to the light, fan or Electric Mirror ultrasonic control switch. In renovations, it may be easier to connect the junction box to the light bar above the mirror as shown in diagram 4.

3. Hardwire Defogger to Junction Box and Adhere Defogger to Wall

Hardwire the defogger's electrical leads to the remodel junction box usine wire nuts. Connect the black (blue) and white (brown) wire leads to the 110-120 volt leads in the junction box.

Remove the release paper, place defogger in position and stick the top defogger edge in line with the previously drawn horizontal mark. Carefully work the defogger down by applying firm pressure.

4. Install Mirror As Normal

Place the mirror flush to the wall by using any applicable mirror mounting system. If using mirror mastic or tape, do not place it on the defogger.

Plastic clips may be used providing they hold the mirror against the wall. Ensure that the mirror is pressed flush to the wall in contact with the defogger for proper heat transfer.

Some mirror installations require holes to be drilled in the mirror to accomodate light fixtures or outlets. Holes substantially weaken mirrors and the added stress of heat may cause cracking. Therefore, holes should not be drilled or cut in the mirror glass.
